A Note About Ads

OK, look. I realize it may be considered gauche to run ads on a personal blog. But here’s the thing: If I run ads, and lots of people see them, then that means there’s a chance that writing on this blog may actually generate a little bit of money. Considering that writing for money is what I do for a living, this scenario would make it considerably easier for me to justify writing more here. If you’re enjoying reading what I’m writing, I figure that’s a beneficial situation for both of us.

But I know plenty of people who consider ads, any ads, to be the scourge of the internet. I sympathize with that point of view, I do. That’s part of the reason why I will never, ever introduce a pop-up, pop-over, or sound-enabled ad on this site. The ads you’ll find here are static text, images, maybe some light animation, and retailer affiliate links. Nothing intrusive. Ever.

If you’d still prefer not to see any ads, I’d like to make a recommendation: Firefox and the extension Adblock Plus. I use them, I love them, and I suspect you will too. But here’s how I use Adblock: When I come across a site I’d particularly like to support, I disable ad blocking for that site. It’s really easy; you just click the little arrow next to the stop sign and choose “Disable on…” If you’re using Adblock, and you wouldn’t mind doing the same thing for this site, I sure would appreciate it.

But let’s not have a misunderstanding between us. If you just can’t stand the ads, you are absolutely welcome here anyway. Please feel free to read, comment, and enjoy. And don’t hesitate to drop me a line if you think I haven’t thought this whole ad thing through properly. I welcome your feedback.

But if you can find it in your heart to deal with the ad situation, I’d be ever so grateful.

Thanks for reading.
