I am glad that I am not the only person who was flabbergasted by this tradition. Friends and were making fun of me, asking if I was sure I was Polish?!? (I was starting to doubt my heritage) Looks like it was something we never did, but hey, we do have oplatki and Wegilia. So, we win!

for me it’s totally unbelievable that you have never heard about Pączki and Fat thursday!! in poland, if you don’t eat at least 10 doughnuts at “Pączki day” you are such a looser

I remember Paczki Day as a child –my family was more into bakery than yours :) And we have celebrated it
every year since moving into the funeral home! I do not
remember hearing about a funeral procession being
stopped. Will research that.

It was NOT celebrated at home. I didn’t hear about it till I was an adult either. I guess the long lines were not during our FH days…

Any holiday that involves doughnuts is a good holiday in my book and I will celebrate it from now on!
